Shoemakers American Grille
Once a Shoe Factory...
Now Making Memories in Dining

Shoemakers American Grille, originally open for dinner only and intended to be one of Lynchburg's finest gourmet dining venues, has now adopted a more modestly priced and family friendly format.

Shoemakers American Grille is now open for lunch and dinner. Rest assurred, the menu still includes great steak and fresh seafood. Fresh organically grown ingredients produce an optimal dining experience.

The wine selection is unsurpassed. Four private dining rooms are available for meetings and can seat from 8 to 40 people. More intimate dining is also available with views overlooking the James River.

In the last two decades, the city has been slowly revitalizing downtown and the riverfront area. The new Bluffwalk Center with the Terry Craddock Hotel and Conference Center, retail space, restaurants, entertainment venues, and a new City Hall is the centerpiece of this plan.

The Craddock Terry Hotel, housed in what was once the Craddock-Terry Shoe factory and a tobacco storage warehouse, is the cornerstone of the revitalization project.

After parking in one of the 27 or so spots in the Craddock Terry Hotel lot, walk across the valet off-loading area and look for the Shoemakers American Grille sign in front of the ornate lampost with the hanging flower baskets.

Walk down the stairs and cross the open pavilion area to the front door, enter, turn right, go down a few more stairs and into the bar area.

Dazzling! That's the only way to describe what is arguably Lynchburg's finest bar and restaurant.

Who would ever believe that the facility harkens back to Lynchburg's days as a tobacco and shoemaking center. In fact where you will find yourself seated was very likely the same spot where civil war era Lynchburger's made and warehoused shoes.

Upon entering, the pull of the beautiful granite-topped bar and cozy ambience will be hard to resist.

But if you are able, walk through the bar, passing the impeccable open kitchen, to the hostess station, and see how the whole layout just screams of elegance and superb planning.

The ambience of the dining area, with it's linen tablecloths, exposed brickwork and timbers, abundance of dark, rich woodwork and friendliness of the the wait staff will make you feel welcome and want to stay.

Then there's the food. Has anyone ever heard anyone say they had a bad meal, or even a so-so meal, at Shoemakers American Grille? "Excellent", "Superb" and "Memorable" are the words most often heard.

Wasabi-crusted salmon, filet-mignon, crabcakes, fresh fish, lobster bisque, oysters Rockefeller and a wine cellar that defies the imagination only scratches the surface.

If anyone were hesitant to bring the whole family to Shoemaker's in the past, now is the time to make that family visit.

Their prices are no longer in the "expense account crowd" category and menu selections and prices have been revised to appeal to a wide cross-section of clientele.
