The Dance Theatre of Lynchburg

Anyone interested in the art of the dance will find an extremely valuable resource in The Dance Theatre of Lynchburg. In 1999, Keith Lee and Charlotte Lester saw the need for a facility dedicated to the art of dancing; and the revitalization of the downtown area provided the perfect locale for their dream.

The dream was to bring Lynchburg "accessible dance programming" and a "dedicated arts facility" that would be accessible to all. The Dance Theatre has evolved into three large dance studios, a reception area, student lounge and an incredible library focused on performing the dance.

The library, named the Helen McGehee Library, contains over three hundred books and films soley on dancing. In addition it boasts the Laurie McCauley costume shop and a pilates studio.

This You Tube video courtesy of Virginians for the Arts, Arts Build Communities campaign, and supported in part by a grant from Altria is worth a thousand words. It truly shows what the dance theatre contributes to the community.

Interest aficionados are invited to visit, tour the facility and see their plans for the future.

The Dance Theater has their own dedicated website which hosts a wealth of information and the theatres current events.
